Moving while Engaged: From Brooklyn to Texas, with Love

This post originally was entitled "Texas Bound" and appeared on our old blog Born to be a Bride.

My love and I are packing our bag (wow, I can’t believe we managed to fit a whole weekend’s worth of outfits for two fashion enthusiasts in one carry-on together!) and we are hitting the road. It’s been a slow yet exciting thing, this whole Texas plan. But here it is: We are moving. To Dallas, TX. In three weeks.

This weekend, we’re going down for some apartment hunting and probably a ton of great food, too. I am a tad nervous about adapting from a chill Brooklyn lifestyle to the grandeur and glitz of Dallas. On the flip side though, there is something about the New York pace that has started to eat away at my soul a little. It’s cut-throat here, and that’s great. But I’m ready for a change. I know we’re coming back here not long from now, and I will come up for ample family visits, dress fittings, and more. But in the meantime, it will be nice to have a car, to live among friendly people, to let my hair down in a way I haven’t been able to since getting my first NYC job and apartment five years ago.

It will also be nice to build a home together that’s truly ours. I’ve loved this Brooklyn apartment, and we’ll still own it. But it was always his, and I’ve just lived here. My “office” is in our bedroom. That is a terrifying truth. This new place will be the one we’ll look back on years after getting married and remember with pride and nostalgia. A place bigger and better than we can afford here, and a place decorated with a proper mix of modernity and whimsy, just like us.

I will obviously post photos. For now, though– Ciao! I’ve got a plane to catch.
